On Monday, 27 July, the 50th jubilee edition of the Wojciech Fibak Grand Prix will begin on the courts of AZS Poznań. The opening day will feature 25 qualifying matches: 15 in the boys’ singles and 10 in the girls’ singles.
All first-round matchups have now been confirmed. In the boys’ draw, one player – the top seed – has received a first-round bye, while six players have byes in the girls’ draw. The rest of the field will take to the courts from the morning, competing for a place in the second round.
There will be plenty of Polish interest. On Court 1, E. Makiela will face M. Nowak [7], while M. Owramko [3] will take on M. Szlachcic. On Court 2, L. Maliszewski [WC] will play D. Kielb [5]. The organisers’ wild cards have been awarded to M. Lyskawa, M. Chyla, F. Goerick and A. Gajewski in the boys’ competition, and to A. Rekos and M. Maksimowicz in the girls’ draw. Alongside the Polish players, the tournament will feature competitors from countries including Italy, Lithuania, Latvia, Greece, the Czech Republic, Ukraine, Finland, Great Britain, Switzerland, India and the United States.
