Grand Prix Wojtka Fibaka
Sunday brought the seven-day jubilee edition of the Wojciech Fibak Grand Prix to a close. Four finals produced four titles and six national flags on the trophies — Serbian, Czech, Danish, Ukrainian, Belgian and Italian.
Saturday was meant to conclude the girls’ doubles competition and complete the line-up of finalists. It only partially succeeded. Seven of the nine scheduled matches were completed before rain arrived over the AZS courts and brought play to a halt.
Friday brought another scorching day at the AZS courts and was the first day of the tournament devoted entirely to quarterfinals.
Thursday was the busiest day of the tournament. Thirty-two matches were played across six courts — the second round of the boys’ and girls’ singles, as well as the complete opening round of both doubles competitions.
Wednesday marked the first day of the main draw. A full programme of 32 first-round boys’ and girls’ singles matches was completed across six courts, reducing the draws of the 50th Wojciech Fibak Grand Prix to 32 players by the evening.
Tuesday brought a double round of action in Poznań. Twenty-four matches were played across six courts, covering the second and third — and final — rounds of qualifying in the boys’ and girls’ singles.
The opening day of the 50th Wojciech Fibak Grand Prix was scheduled to begin at 9:00 AM. The first balls were not struck until after 2:30 PM.
On Monday, 27 July, the 50th jubilee edition of the Wojciech Fibak Grand Prix will begin on the courts of AZS Poznań. The opening day will feature 25 qualifying matches: 15 in the boys’ singles and 10 in the girls’ singles.
After the acceptance lists closed on 14 July, a real wave of withdrawals swept through the tournament.
Only a few days remain until the 50th Wojciech Fibak Grand Prix. The jubilee edition will begin on 27 July and run until 2 August on the clay courts of AZS Poznań.
